Three day Adobe Photoshop course covering basic Photoshop, print design, photo editing and photo retouching. Cover the basics of Adobe Photoshop and a range of Photoshop tools and techniques, including creating print ready photographs, image cut-outs and clipping paths, photo editing, photo retouching, composites and photo montage and photo design, as well as techniques for non-destructive editing of photographs.

This beginners and intermediate Photoshop course will cover the most common Photoshop features and the techniques used in preparing images and designing for print and for use in page layouts and page designs in desktop publishing applications.

Who is the course aimed at ?
This course is aimed at those who currently have little or no Photoshop skills, and would like to be able to use Photoshop to edit photos and create images and artwork for print. This course may also be suitable for photographers who want a good understanding of how to get the best out of their photographs.

Course requirements
You should have good general computer skills.
Some previous knowledge of design or image editing software would be helpful, but not essential.

One to one or small group of up to 4 trainees.
Trainees in a group should have the same skill level and the same requirements.

Day 1 - Three day Adobe Photoshop

Introduction to the basics of Adobe Photoshop, and some basic image editing techniques

Photoshop basics - interface, tools and palettes
The Adobe Photoshop environment, and finding your way around Photoshop
Using the tools and changing tool options
Using the palettes: Layers, History, Info, etc.
Keyboard shortcuts for navigation and zoom

Cropping and Rotating
Cropping images to remove unwanted areas
Rotating or Flipping an image

Selection Tools
Using the different selection tools - Lasso, Marquee, Magic Wand & Quick Selection Tool
Making a selection around an object
Adding or subtracting areas from the selection
Modifying selections - transform selection tool, expand, contract, feather
Selecting an area of an image based on its' colour, and modifying that area
Editing, moving or copying a selected image area
Removing or changing the area surrounding a selected object

Working with layers: organising, naming and deleting layers
Combining photographs and text in separate Layers
Modifying the content of a layer, moving layer content, editing or erasing areas
Add a drop shadow and emboss effects to an item on a layer

Creating normal text and artistic text, setting text properties and choosing colours

Days 2 / 3 - Three day Adobe Photoshop

Days two and three will cover a number of Photoshop techniques for creating print ready photographs, image cut-outs and designs, as well as learning photo editing, photo retouching, photo montage and photo design, and techniques for non-destructive editing of photographs.

This is a typical course outline but content may vary depending on your requirements and the type of work you want to produce, the number of trainees, and your abilities.

Choosing images for print work
Making certain that the images you choose are suitable for printing
Choosing images from different sources - e.g. digital camera, scanner or photo library
The correct image size and resolution for the job

Avoiding common photo printing problems
Avoiding common problems when printing - such as: blurred or blocky images, colour changes, white areas which look "grey" or blacks which aren't black.

Colours and Colour Correction
Using Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Selective Colour to colour adjust an image
Adjusting only selected areas of an image
Setting image areas to pure black or pure white

Working with different Colour Modes
Creating a good quality grey-scale image from a colour photograph
