Course duration: 1 day
Level: beginners (with some intermediate)
Numbers: One to one or small groups of up to 4
Trainees in a group should have the same skill level and the same requirements.

Beginners PageMaker course covering the basics of page layout and design with Adobe PageMaker.
Looking at the main tools and the basics of page design, and working with text and images to create small simple documents like posters, leaflets, simple newsletters, etc.
The course will normally be partly based around working through some of your own projects and designs.

Requirements
You should have good computer skills. Some previous knowledge of design software will be helpful, particularly Adobe Photoshop for image resizing and colour correction.If you will be using photographs or other images in your documents, you may also want to consider a 2 day DTP and design introduction, using Adobe PageMaker and Adobe Photoshop.

 

Adobe PageMaker Course Outline

Basics of page layout and design.
Creating simple documents like flyers, small adverts, leaflets, newsletters, etc.
Training will normally be partly based around working through some of your own projects and designs.

Getting Started
Setting up a new document, defining document size, page margins, etc.
Using column guides and custom guide lines to help you position content 

Text
Creating text on the page or importing text prepared in a word processor
Setting Text properties: font, size, style, colour, leading, kerning.
Flowing text from one text block to another
Editing text on the page and with the Story Editor
Checking Spelling

Graphics & Images
Placing graphics and pictures on the page - resizing, moving, cropping
Replacing one picture with another
Linking or embedding placed files
How you should correctly prepare graphics and images for use in Page Maker
Drawing lines and shapes, setting stroke and fill colours, and creating borders for pictures, choosing colours and defining colours

Keyboard shortcuts
Using the Control Palette to position and size items accurately
Selecting objects on a page, aligning, grouping, moving, rotating.

Adding, removing and organising pages
Setting up and using master documents
Creating automatic page numbering on multi page documents

Using layers to separate design elements such as text and pictures

Exporting PDF files for electronic distribution
Setting up application and document preferences

Using the Table Editor
Creating tables to go into a PageMaker document
Setting table size, cell size, spacing
Defining borders and colours and for the table
Adding and editing text and graphics.
Getting the table into your PageMaker document
