Macromedia Fireworks Training
Advanced Web Graphics - Intermediate and Advanced Techniques - 1 - 2 days

For those with some experience of Fireworks, web graphics design and web site design. This Macromedia Fireworks course is designed to follow on from the Fireworks beginners course and look at Macromedia Fireworks and web graphics design in more detail.

Course duration: 1 - 2 day course
• or 2 - 3 days with beginners course
Level: intermediate - advanced
Software: Macromedia Fireworks 4, Fireworks MX, Fireworks MX2004, Fireworks 8.
Numbers: One to one or small groups of up to 4
Trainees in a group should have the same skill level and the same requirements.

General Design and Editing
Making a set of photographs of the same dimensions or precisely sizing images to fit in the web page design
Creating a border or a drop shadow around a photograph.

Creating custom shapes with the pen tool
Using path editing features like Union and Intersect to modify one shape with another

Using gradients, slice tools and layer masks,
Using Effects and saving an effect for re-use on other graphics

Copying text attributes from one block of text to another
Replacing all instances of a colour with another colour across the whole design
Changing one colour for another when exporting as a low colour gif file (e.g. change grey to white)

Animation
Animation techniques and terms:- tweening, frames, symbols
Creating an animation of a moving object or changing shape
Animation and banner ad design, including shaped banners, and different banner sizes
Changing the path of an animating object
Running the animation continuously or stopping after a number of cycles
Using scanned images and photographs in animations
How to keep file size low when animating
Exporting and optimising an animated GIF

Buttons and Menu Bars
Using the various design tools and the Slice tools to create and export web graphics
Designing buttons and menu bars and setting up mouseovers
Using the slice tool to cut a large image into a number of smaller images
Setting individual names and export settings for each slice
Exporting a single slice from the design area as an individual image
Exporting buttons and menu bars with HTML and Javascript code

Web Page Design with Fireworks
Designing a complete page, or page section (e.g. page header with logo and buttons) with attached behaviours (mouseovers) then using the slice tool to slice that design into separate images for use on the web page.
Modifying Fireworks generated HTML files in Dreamweaver to create a working web page

Others
Creating a flyout or dropdown menu
Using artwork from other applications such as Illustrator and Photoshop in your design
