- Introduction to desktop publishing and page layout with either Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign.
- Introduction to Adobe Photoshop for preparing images for your documents and basic image editing.
This desktop publishing course is available in Birmingham and surrounding
Midlands areas including Solihull, Redditch, Bromsgrove and Worcester. and around
the UK.
Training may be available for one or two people at our premises in South
Birmingham. (but not for all versions of the software)

Desktop publishing course requirements
You should have good computer skills. Some previous knowledge of design
software would be an advantage, but this is not essential.
This course is suitable for someone who has little or no desktop publishing and design skills and would like to be able to learn all the basics necessary to start creating complete desktop publishing documents.
Introduction to Desktop Publishing - Course Outline
This beginners desktop publishing course will be for 2 days, It is an introduction to desktop publishing and design and will be approximately 60% Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign and 40% Adobe Photoshop.
Course will usually be organised like so:
Day one
½ day Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign introduction
(page setup, using text and pictures, using colours, basic page layout and
design)
½ day Photoshop introduction
(how to resize images and set the correct resolution, cropping an image,
adjusting brightness and contrast, saving in the correct format, etc)
Day two
Using either Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign together with Adobe
Photoshop to create typical documents relevant to the work you are doing
(possibly a small newsletter or leaflet) working accurately and consistently,
look basic typography.

Adobe Photoshop beginners course
Further training is recommended in most cases, you may need a further 1 - 4 days training, depending on specific requirements and the type of work you want to do with the software.
